Touring - Teachers

Jed Cahill

Jed is the creator and director of In The Bin Film Festival which has grown in size and strength since he started it back in 1999. Before then he was a frustrated actor, who turned into a frustrated director, who turned into a frustrated festival director, but everyone knows a festival director is just a frustrated musician.

In 2003 Jed Cahill started his Education Program to coincide with the In The Bin Touring Festival, since then Jed has taught over 3,000 students in regional Australia the skills of making short films. He has produced over 500 short films in the workshops, and has traveled to almost every corner of Australia.

Jed Cahill is currently typing up his Bio, picking his nose and laughing obnoxiously loud. Other than that he is developing new strands of In The Bin to focus on stronger film and video production. He is also working on expanding In The Bin’s reach to a wider audience. In between this Jed is also jumping back into the Directors seat working on his first short film in five years.

Emma Buckely

After graduating from a Bachelor of Creative Arts/Bachelor of Science degree Emma discovered her passion for film making at Sydney Film School in 2004. After production assisting on Channel 7’s children’s series Playhouse Disney Emma spent the following two years honing her craft at the Victorian College of the Arts and completed a Masters in Film and Television production in 2006.

Emma has written and directed five short children’s films which have screened internationally and nationally.

She is also credited in over 30 short films in various crew roles including producer, editor and production designer. Emma now works for In The Bin and loves it.

Idonea Gasmire

Bachelor of Arts majoring in Studies in Arts and Creative Industry, Creative Writing and Contemporary Arts

Graduate Diploma of Education (middle and senior years – Visual Arts and English)

Idonea has been creating magnificent masterpieces since very early childhood but it was only after completing a degree at Griffith University, Gold Coast that she was realised the ‘real world’ was much bigger then the world that she had created inside her own head and that maybe, just maybe she could benefit from entering into it and creating magnificent masterpieces that occasionally are made available for others to see, if their lucky.

Idonea entered into teaching with the hope and anticipation of influencing students about the power and spirit of art, but felt that her scope was restricted by the confines of the classroom. Idonea is hopeful that with the touring festival and the superhero efforts of the touring team, massive amounts of community support and fingers crossed tightly (they aren’t budging) that she may be able to spread the word that art doesn’t need to make sense… (David Lynch has made a career out of it, why can’t I).

Luke Nicholls

Luke Nicholls has always fostered a passion for the arts; drawing, painting and playing music, throughout his childhood. During his studies at University of Queensland he became heavily involved in sound design, music and creative writing. In 2008 he graduated from Griffith University with a Bachelor of Creative Arts majoring in script writing and digital video along with a Certificate of Popular Music/Sound Design.

Luke has assisted in the production of one of his scripts “Computer Failure” (due for completion in 2009) and has been making amateur films with friends since finishing school.

Luke has been working with In the Bin Short Film Festival since July 2008 touring across Australia and teaching film in over 30 communities. He is credited in over 50 short films & is currently writing a screenplay for production in 2009.

Jay Bendixen

Jay, as Jed describes him is, "Quite possibly the most talented, promising, young film-maker he has ever seen".  Jed often refers to Jay when mentioning things such as "Awesome Sauce", "Masculine", "Visionary" and "Heart Throbbing".  Jay is a very modest guy and gets very embarrassed when Luke goes roaming around telling everyone "...Jay is so great, I wish I was him...".
If you have the pleasure of Jay coming to your town, make the most of it.

Jay has been a part of Live international Broadcasts, worked on Australian TV shows, been mentored by an award winning Cinematographer. He has also worked on an ABC documentary and has had key roles in smaller independent projects such as local community broadcasts, music videos and short films.
